Something about Nellie
Nellie Summers is an Australian author, originally from Belgium. She wrote her first story in Reception, about a leprechaun being late for school. She misspelled almost every word, making the story a challenge to read. She has been writing ever since, winning her first competition at 9 years old.
These days, Nellie has had several short stories published and aspires to have her children’s adventure stories on the shelves of a bookstore. She completed several courses with the Australian Writers' Centre and Australian Society of Authors and is working tirelessly to find a suitable publisher for The Trouble Troopers.
Living with her family in South Australia, she spends her time as a GP, running through the Adelaide Hills or playing the clarinet in the local community concert band.
Did you know... ?
... that my name is not Nellie Summers? it's just a pen name!
My real name is Nele Leenders. I've changed it, not because I don't like my name, but because no one can pronounce it! Nele is a very Flemish name and Leenders is common in the Netherlands. It has a unique sound to it and native English speakers struggle to get it right. I don't mind my name being mispronounced (to be honest, I find it a bit funny!) but I feel sorry for all the struggling, red-faced and panicky Australian people. So I made life a bit easier for everyone and Nellie Summers it is!
